Our New Business Development Executive - Babur Khan by Admin

I finished my university at Delaware, USA in 1998 (MBA) and moved in to the hotel industry; primarily sales and marketing. Working my way through two hotel chains, I moved into the serviced apartment industry in 2003. Soon, from business development, I was overlooking operations, guest relations, quality control as well as the new business development.

I then, steered my interest further in to the industry by participating in to property acquisitions whilst managing a small business development and operations team. My biggest achievement within the industry is to house the entire cast of a motion picture called “The Jacket”; from George Clooney, Kris Kristofferson, Keirra Kinghtely, Adrien Brody, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Daniel Criag to Peter Strauss (Executive Producer). In the spare time when I am not working; I do enjoy regional music (Cuban, Arabic, Latin & Native American) and then make unsuccessful attempts to play it on guitar. I am a Marvel Action fan and collect animated comic videos; even from the 1970s. I have already done 78 hours of flying in a Cessna 152 (fixed tricycle gear with 4 cylinder engine) and am only few weeks away to have my PPL (private pilot licence). Other than this, I do enjoy water sports, a good round of golf and vintage cars.

I hope that my time at The Apartment Service will be informative, effective and that I will be considered a valuable colleague amongst many.

Sean Frazer and Kim Ashmore attended the Totally Expat Show on 16th May at the Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square. by Kim Ashmore

 

We arrived just after 8AM and it was great to have all of the exhibition stands and promotional material delivered by David Hobson from the Guest Services team - much easier than trying to carry it all in rush hour on the tube! 

 

As soon as the exhibition opened the networking started!  There were lots of familiar faces and it was good to catch up on the news as many came over to say hi and reminisce about EURA

 

Our stand featuring Shakin' Stevens and 'Audrey' seemed to be an attention grabber and caused a lot of comments - mission accomplished!  The competition winner was 'over the moon' to win a 2 night stay in our Madrid Apartments. His colleagues on the KPMG stand looked slightly jealous as he received his prize on TAS stand. 

 

Five O'clock came very quickly - although 2 pairs of aching feet said differently!  Our super hero David came and collected the packed up stand (the luxury!) and another successful exhibition came to a close...

Why using a serviced apartment agency can be a lot less hassle than letting an apartment with an estate agent by Admin

One of the questions friends and acquaintances ask most frequently when you tell them that you are working for a self-catering accommodation company is why it is our customers are not renting an apartment straight from a letting agent instead.

There are several answers to this question: the wide range of short term lettings we can offer them -which is surprisingly scarce-, the flexibility to cancel (or extend) your tenancy without being heavily penalised, and the fact that a serviced apartment company will not ask you for a hefty deposit to secure a tenancy. Additionally and no less importantly, there are a number of other less publicised reasons why serviced apartments are the best solution for people who want to make the most of their stay without having to worry about the mundane details, such as bills. For example, typical monthly bills that you’ll be liable for when living in London:

o   Council Tax: this is a tax that is levied on a property that has to be paid whether you are renting or have bought your London home. The amount of council tax you will have to pay varies according to the area of London in which you live. It is graded in bands (A-H) and is based on the value of the property

o   Electricity, gas and water: monthly bill based on usage of each utility during the month

o   Satellite TV (cable) 

o   Internet access

o   TV Licence: This is an annual fee levied by the BBC for the right to watch world-renowned British public broadcasting

o   Resident parking permit: a resident parking permit allows you to park your vehicle in designated areas of the controlled parking zone (CPZ) where you live. Most of serviced apartments offer private car parking which is a definite plus –and also very uncommon

So although we rarely stress the benefits of having all your monthly bills been taken care of -all included in your accommodation costs and part of the service- it is a considerable benefit in that there is no need for you to worry about setting time and funds aside to organise the set-up and payments of these services.

And lastly, there are the evident advantages of a weekly cleaning service and a maintenance team, managed by our in-house Guest Services department and on hand to deal with any concerns you may have.

My cause by Sara Calvo

I had ordered some new sofas and needed to get rid of my old ones.  They were in really good condition even though they were 15 years old and really did not want to take them down the dump!

 

I rang my local Missionary Mart and asked if they would like them to sell on -which they even collected on the day my new ones arrived.  Perfect!

 

Whilst enjoying my new sofas and not even thinking about my old ones anymore, I received a letter from the British Heart Foundation thanking me for my donation and that I had raised £195.00!!!  I felt really pleased with my decision and even more so as I had recently lost a family member who had had heart problems.

 

I encourage you to not take good reusable items to the dump but to give them to charity so they can raise money for a good cause.
